Although absent from the New Testament corpus, the Virgin Mary's Davidic ancestry is a prominent theme in early Christian literature. For Tertullian, it is clearly an essential fact. This contribution examines each of the texts in which this idea is expressed, seeking in particular to shed light on Tertullian's recourse to the Mary's census and his interpretation of the genealogies of Jesus according to Matthew and Luke.
