Although still little used by eco-theology, the thought of Maximus

the Confessor offers important resources for thinking about the relationship

between the human being and the cosmos (the presence of God in the logoi

of creatures, natural contemplation, the image of the human being as “priest”

of creation). Yet Maximus makes the human being a “mediator” of the salvation

of the whole universe. Should this exorbitant place be rejected, with the anthropocentric

vision that underlies it?
